For all Work Permit, Training Work Permit and S Pass holders entering Singapore from 1 Jan 2021, employer must buy a COVID-19 medical insurance for them

From 1 Jan 2021, Employer must buy a COVID-19 medical insurance for all Work Permit, Training Work Permit and S Pass holders entering Singapore

The Government has thus far borne the COVID-19 medical bills for pass holders, unless they left Singapore from 27 Mar 2020 despite the prevailing travel advisory. For all pass holders entering Singapore from 1 Jan 2021, the Government will no longer cover their treatment cost if they develop COVID-19 symptoms or test positive within 14 days of arrival in Singapore. This is regardless of when they left Singapore.

Accordingly, for all (new and existing) Work Permit, Training Work Permit and S Pass holders entering Singapore from 1 Jan 2021, Employer must buy medical insurance with a coverage of at least $10,000 for their medical expenses if they develop COVID-19 symptoms or test positive within 14 days of arrival in Singapore. Employer need to buy the insurance before the workers arrive in Singapore.

Please check with insurer whether your workers' existing medical insurance plans meet the requirements. If not, you can consider NTUC Income's COVID-19 insurance.

For all other pass holders (e.g. Employment Pass holders or dependants), they are encouraged to buy medical insurance with the appropriate coverage before entering Singapore as they are responsible for their medical expenses if they develop COVID-19 symptoms or test positive within 14 days of arrival in Singapore.
